Daniel James Palmer, the son of the New York Times bestseller novelist, Michael Palmer, and has definitely created a spot for himself with his techo-flavored thrillers. Helpless is his latest thriller which has quickly made its way to the top selling lists.
A Brief Summary:
The main character of Helpless is Tom Hawkins who is the coach of the Shilo Wildcats, the high school girls' soccer practice. Life seems normal until an officer named Brendan Murphy informs Tom that his ex-wife has been found dead in the ravine in back of her home. Murphy immediately suspects Tom of foul play, and it doesn't help Tom that he has an alibi but no proof of it.
Then an anonymous blog post alleges that Coach Hawkins is sleeping with one of his players. Internet rumors escalate, and incriminating evidence surfaces on Tom's own computer and mobile phone.
Tom's world comes crashing down on him and almost no one, not even his daughter, believes him. Tom's attorney, receives some information from a wholly unexpected source, and slowly comes to realize that Tom may in fact be innocent. But why is this happening to Tom? It turns out that he has been keeping a secret of his own that is now coming back to haunt him.
Helpless" is a cautionary tale about potentially dangerous consequences of the digital life in which we live. Daniel Palmer, like his debut, mixes the technology and digital/social networking with an energetic and fast-paced story. You will find interesting details from soccer to the FBI's battle against cybercriminals. This is a story for the sort of the readers who enjoy books from James Patterson and alike.
