Alexander Skarsgård To Star In New Stephen King Show
Swedish actor Alexander Skarsgård (Big Little Lies) will star as Mr Randall Flagg in The Stand, a ten part adaptation of Stephen King’s 1978 novel for CBS All Access.
Stephen King’s novel The Stand expands upon the scenario of his earlier short story “Night Surf”, and presents a detailed vision of the total breakdown of society after the accidental release of a strain of influenza that had been modified for biological warfare.
The virus causes an apocalyptic pandemic, killing off over 99% of the world’s population. Published in 1978, The Stand is the fourth and longest novel King published.
The plot for the TV series is similar: a patient escapes from a biological testing facility, unknowingly carrying a deadly a deadly virus that will wipe out 99 percent of the world’s population in a matter of weeks.
Those who remain are scared, bewildered, and in need of a leader. Two emerge: Mother Abagail (Whoopi Goldberg), the benevolent 108-year-old woman who urges them to build a community in Colorado; and Randall Flagg (Alexander Skarsgård), the nefarious Dark Man who delights in chaos and violence.
As the dark man and the peaceful woman gather power, the survivors will have to choose between them, and ultimately decide the fate of all humanity.
Directed by Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars), The Stand will premiere on CBS All Access in 2020.
Alexander Skarsgård is known for his roles as vampire Eric Northman on the HBO series True Blood, the title character in The Legend of Tarzan, and Brad Colbert in the HBO miniseries Generation Kill.
He also played Perry Wright in the HBO series Big Little Lies, for which he won a Primetime Emmy Award and a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor in a series.
