How Did Michael Connelly Do The Research For “The Drop”?

One of key elements that makes a crime fiction plot solid and rich is a robust research work: This is the case in the novels written by masters such as Michael Connelly. His latest novel, The Drop, is a fascinating piece of work based on close interaction with real detectives. While in the process of researching his novel, Michael Connelly invited two veteran homicide investigators with the LAPD to room 79 at the Chateau Marmont hotel. It’s the same room in The Drop that becomes a crime scene after an unexplained death. Connelly asked Detectives Rick Jackson and Tim Marcia to tell him how they would handle the scene. Many of their suggestions were used in the book.

We hope you enjoy watching this video and hopefully pick some insights.
